Information for New Patients
How can I book an appointment?
Do I need a referral to see one of the Respiratory Specialists?
How long will I need to wait to see a Respiratory Specialist?
Before an initial appointment can be made with our specialists, a copy of a referral letter from your doctor needs to be received and triaged. The triage process is to ensure the patients in need of urgent or earlier review are seen in an appropriate time frame. Referrals can be sent directly to the clinic via Medical objects, email admin@pulmedica.com.au or fax 07 3847 8891. Once the relevant specialist has triaged the referral, one of our reception staff will contact you to organise an appointment.
A referral is necessary in order to claim a Medicare rebate towards the costs of your consultation with the Doctor. The referral can be from a GP or another specialist. GP referrals last 12 months, specialist referrals last 3 months. Your referral will start from the date of your visit with the Doctor.
Wait times for appointments can vary. Our specialists do get very busy but the triage process for new referrals ensure that the patients most in need of urgent care are seen in a timely manner. We do have a cancellation list and can sometimes offer earlier appointments.
Will I need to have any tests before my appointment?
What should I bring to my first appointment?
This depends on your clinical condition and any previous testing your GP has ordered. Our specialists, at the time of triaging your referral will indicate if a breathing test is required prior to your appointment. Please ensure that your GP has sent through any relevant reports for radiology, pathology, lung function testing or sleep studies with your referral.
Please bring the items below if they have not already been sent through with your initial referral
-
Previous correspondence related to your condition (if applicable)
-
A list of your medications and allergies (including natural preparations such as fish oil and turmeric)
-
The reports of any pathology or radiology tests performed related to your condition (if applicable)
-
Your sleep study report (if applicable)
-
Medicare Card
-
Pension or Concession Card if you have one
-
Veterans Affairs Card if you have one
Is there onsite
parking available?
The Administration building visitor paid car park can be accessed via the Emergency Centre entrance off Newdegate Street (Gate 1). There is also 2 hour street parking available along Denman Street. If you are planning to park on the street please allow ample time as the streets around the hospital do get busy.
How much will my appointment cost?
We will advise you of the fees and the applicable Medicare rebates when confirming your appointment. We offer onsite claiming for Medicare to make sure your rebate is received directly into your nominated bank account. We accept payment via Cash, Eftpos and Cheque.
Do you offer Telehealth consultations?
New patients to the clinic are asked to book a face to face appointment initially if possible. Telehealth consultations can be arranged for new patients to the clinic who live in a remote location on special request.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please advise us as soon as possible if you are unable to make your appointment as we do have a list of patients waiting to be seen. Cancellations within 24 hours will attract a cancellation fee.
